Job Description - Jun Bum Kwon

Task 2.1 Harmonic system analysis of generators and loads (PhD)

Objectives and Research content:

To develop new tools for analysis of harmonics being present in a power system as well as propose methods to reduce the harmonics in a proper way to keep stability.

A second objective will be to identify the different sources of harmonics, define a harmonic load flow and propose new systematic methods/tools to detect harmonics in the different nodes of the power system and dispatch this information into different solutions, that can mitigate them.

The analysis aim will be to define a harmonic model of the generators and loads connected to the power system and then carry out studies at system level to see how they interacts. At the generator side appropriate models for LCL filters and their control are necessary, starting with simple approaches of a harmonic description to more non-linear like behavior which includes the controllers’ robustness towards e.g. background distortion.

At the load side simplified harmonic models may be developed only taken into account the even harmonics described by a simple relation between the load and the harmonics.

This may be further expanded by calculation methods, where the phase of the harmonics also are included as well as methods to calculate cases with non-symmetrical loads, where the harmonics will not be distributed equally.
